We bring you and your personal doctor together to create a confidential treatment plan with counseling and Medication-Assisted Treatment services in the comfort and privacy of your doctor’s office.
What is Opioid Use Disorder?
Opioid use disorders occur when recurrent use of opioids, including prescription pain pills (OxyContin®, Vicodin, etc.) and heroin, causes significant health problems, disability or failure to meet major responsibilities at work, school or home. Symptoms of opioid use disorder include:
- Strong desire for opioids
- Inability to control or reduce use
- Continued use despite negative consequences
- Use of larger amounts over time
- Withdrawal symptoms like negative mood, nausea or vomiting, muscle aches, diarrhea, fever, and insomnia.
What is Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT)?
MAT is a whole-person approach that provides effective treatment for opioid use conditions. MAT combines FDA-approved medications to treat opioid use disorder along with counseling and behavioral therapy in the comfort and privacy of a medical office. MAT is effective. Therapies, including methadone and buprenorphine, empower people to reclaim their lives and rejoin their families, their jobs and their communities.
Is MAT Treatment Right For Me?
When should you be concerned that your prescription pain medications have failed? If any of the statements below apply, MAT could be right for you:
- I have chronic pain and my medication is not working.
- I am preoccupied with thinking about when I can take my next dose.
- I have tried to stop or cut down several times.
- I feel angry if someone talks to me about my opioid use.
- I get pills from other sources besides my doctor (friends, family, websites, or the “street”).
If two or more of the above apply to your situation, you may be struggling with opioid use disorder. Talk with your doctor to find out the different options for treatment of OUD and if MAT is an option for you.
MAT Treatment Options
There are many options available to those suffering with the complex and chronic side effects of opioid use disorder. While there is no single approach that works for everyone, medication assisted treatment with methadone, buprenorphine (Suboxone®) or naltrexone (Vivitrol®) can help you through it. We also know that medication alone is not sufficient, so we offer a choice of individual and group counseling options as a component of all treatment options.
The choice to include medication, along with treatments like acupuncture or mindfulness, is a personal medical decision. Your healthcare provider can help you make informed decisions.
