Sober Living Environment
Studies have shown that a Sober Living Environment (SLE) is an effective and important tool in the recovery process. Recovering individuals who need time away from elements that reduce their chances for recovery find that the supportive environment is a critical ingredient to continued sobriety.
At sober living homes, residents safely experience the transition from higher levels of care back into the community, and day-to-day life in conjunction with a group of individuals doing the same. Homes are supervised by staff members who ensure that these environments offer structure and strong peer support. Clients are required to stay active in recovery programs such as 12-Step meetings and sponsorship, in-house meetings and aftercare and/or continuing treatment. Clients may also work or attend school during the day.
