Medication Assisted Treatment
Buprenorphine
In addition to offering Methadone to treat opiate addiction, the Janus Community Clinic is now offering the innovative, new Buprenorphine treatment. Buprenorphine is less restrictive than Methadone, and frequently meets the needs of people who have developed dependence on prescription pain medications. Methadone is one of the most widely used treatments for opiate addiction. Through the use of this legally controlled medication -- combined with counseling and other support -- many opiate addicts are able to stop illegal drug use and return to more stable, productive lives.
About Methadone
Developed during WWII as a substitute painkiller for morphine, Methadone is a synthetic medication that can effectively treat opium-based withdrawal symptoms. Although an opiate, Methadone differs from other narcotics; when properly prescribed it does not produce a euphoric or tranquilizing effect but instead relieves narcotic craving. Administered orally, it is long-acting and can be taken once a day.
