New! MAT Expansion Counselors

Counselors for the Medication-Assisted Treatment Expansion

Janus of Santa Cruz is seeking qualified applicants for counselors in our brand new Medication Assisted Treatment collaboration program. This program was created to help address the growing opioid crisis and help patients with education and treatment options in conjunction with their primary care physicians. Counselors will provide on-site, individual and/or group counseling for adults with mild to moderate opioid use disorder in a medical setting or doctor’s office. This is a full-time position with full benefits.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide treatment and recovery counseling services to patients referred for opioid use disorder.
  • Document services using the format from each medical clinic assigned and complete charting and other required documentation in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Coordinate and case manage patient care with other community agencies as needed.
  • Maintain federal confidentiality of clinical records and privileged information.
  • Respect and protect the Human Rights of patients.
  • Understand the basic pharmacology of medication-assisted treatment for opioid use disorder.
  • Uphold certifying or licensing entity’s professional Code of Ethics.
  • Work with other clinic staff and patients in a respectful professional manner.
  • Work effectively with a multi-disciplinary team to coordinate patient services and maintain the highest quality of care.

General Program related Responsibilities

  • Alert Program Coordinator of potential urgent situations and/or incidents.
  • Attend supervision meetings and bring issues of concern and/or importance for consultation and direction.
  • Participate in clinic staff meeting and trainings as required.
  • Attend all required trainings and administrative meetings.
  • Maintain professional licenses/certificates and a valid California driver’s license.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator

Qualifications

  • Current CAADE, CCAP or equivalent certification; understanding, knowledge and experience in the area of opioid treatment and recovery.
  • Professionally licensed therapists (MFT, LCSW, LPCC, PhD) or interns must demonstrate competency in treating persons with substance use and co-occurring disorders.
  • Must have at least one year of counseling experience.

Treatment Technician

Treatment Technician I

Janus of Santa Cruz is seeking qualified applicants for multiple positions, full-time, part-time and night shift Treatment Technician I in the Perinatal Residential Treatment (PRT) and the Residential Treatment Programs in Santa Cruz. The Treatment Technician I provides support services and general client supervision to the Recovery Programs and is a member of the clinical team.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have a knowledge of the dynamics of chemical dependency, self-help recovery programs;
  • Basic organizational/office skills;
  • Demonstrated competence in interacting with a broad range of individuals in a professional manner;
  • Good conflict resolution and communication skills;
  • Ability to complete tasks in a timely manner;
  • Ability to work as part of a treatment team;
  • Experience working in a residential treatment program is preferred but not required;
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English preferred but not required;
  • CPR and First Aid Certification required.

Counselor – Santa Cruz Clinic

Counselor – Santa Cruz Clinic

Janus of Santa Cruz is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Counselor. Counselors see patients for individual and group sessions Monday through Friday. The Clinic opens at 5:30 a.m and closes at 2:00 p.m. during the week. Weekend hours are 6:00 a.m. to Noon. Janus Community Clinic, 1000 Emeline Ave., Santa Cruz, CA.

Schedule: Full Time – with Full Benefits

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the pharmacology and physiologic effects of methadone.
  • Working knowledge of applicable portions of Title 9, CARF requirements, and Title 22.

Janus of Santa Cruz is seeking qualified applicants for full time position as an Intake and Referral Specialist in the Sobering Center located in Santa Cruz. The Intake and Referral Specialist is responsible for completing intake documents, researching and providing resident referrals to support services; and general counseling and supervision of residents.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides cheerful and responsive customer service at all times
  • Monitor activity of residents at all times
  • Makes or receives calls related to resident care
  • Conducts admissions and discharges and maintains a log of admissions and discharges
  • Is the primary link between resident and referral or support services
  • Evaluates resident for potential resources
  • Contacts resources and coordinates referrals
  • Primary contact for referring party when resident discharges ASA
  • Acts as a communications link connecting resident information to staff
  • Maintains a visible and active presence in the sobering area
  • Monitors each resident’s schedule and behavior
  • Provides crisis intervention and conflict resolution
  • Maintains safety and integrity of the unit
  • Transports residents to approved appointments as needed

  • Notifies Center Manager of any maintenance or repair needs
  • Actively monitors and reports any safety problems
  • Respect and protect the Human Rights of patients

Admissions Counselor

Admissions Counselor

Janus is currently seeking an Admissions Counselor as part of the multi-disciplinary Janus treatment team. This position is responsible for completing the clinical admissions assessment for clients entering the recovery treatment and perinatal programs. Duties include in-person, level-of-care assessments using the ASI, ASAM placement and motivational interviewing. The Admissions Counselor completes intakes, assessments and administrative paperwork and works with persons impaired by substance abuse with or without co-occurring mental or physical health issues.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

•Completes the entire admissions assessment in the Medical Records System.
•Conducts basic client and family orientations including overview of program guidelines and structure.
•Develops and maintains comprehensive knowledge of community resources; provides information, referrals and follow-up.
•Exhibits genuine concern for clients and always conducts oneself appropriately and professionally.
•Coordinates admissions appointments with Janus staff.
•Obtains authorizations for care and completes timely Utilization Reviews.
•Ensures that all documentation is completed in an accurate, complete and timely manner in compliance with all legal, licensing and regulatory requirements.
•Regularly collaborates and maintains cooperative relationships with area providers and state agencies to support the continuity of care, network coordination & responsiveness to client needs.
•Proficient computer skills and ability to learn and implement Electronic Medical Software AVATAR system in a timely manner.
•Regularly collaborates with Janus administrative staff, including billing, human resources, quality management, payroll, accounts payable, IT, etc., to maintain collaborative and collegial relationships that support mutual understanding, problem solving and ongoing responsiveness to department, program and administrative needs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

•Preference for two (2) years paid experience providing direct substance abuse counseling services in an intensive setting under supervision.
•Preference for two (2) years paid experience providing direct sales of services or goods.
•Certified as a drug and alcohol counselor or registered in a State of California approved certifying organization required.
•Proficient computer skills and ability to learn and implement Electronic Medical Software (AVATAR) to perform essential job functions which includes but is not limited to thoroughly documenting and entering client related information and documents into the AVATAR system in a timely manner
•Ability to pass criminal background investigation.
•Adept at using all features of the telephone system and voicemail.
•CPR and First Aid certification prior to first day of employment and maintains currency.

Medical Assessment Specialist - Sobering Center

Medical Assessment Specialist – Sobering Center

Located a block and a half from the beach, Janus is a state-licensed and CARF certified non-profit offering residential detoxification, residential stays, day treatment, outpatient counseling, perinatal services, and medication-assisted treatment. Janus of Santa Cruz is seeking a part-time or full-time Medical Assessment Specialist for our Sobering Center located in Santa Cruz. The Medical Assessment Specialist evaluates potential residents of the Sobering Center to determine if the person has any medical problems that would preclude a safe stay at the Center, and observes resident’s in the Center to monitor their health. The Medical Assessment Specialist will make decisions on who is medically fit for a stay at the Center, and will call for emergency assistance and transportation for residents who show signs of distress.

Part Time Position – 24 hours per week
Full Time Position – 32 hours per week

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES:
• Performs intakes to determine medical fitness to include:
• Taking and recording vitals.
• Obtaining a verbal medical history from the potential resident.
• Obtaining a SUD history.
• Solely determines fitness for Intake at the Center and ability to remain at the Center.
• Contacts emergency resources as needed.
• Demonstrates an understanding of the pharmacology and physiological effects of alcohol and other commonly abused substances.
• Reports all Medical Incidents to Lead Nurse, Medical Director, or designee.
• Request, collect and follow up from medical and other institutions medical and treatment records such as diagnosis and discharge and neonatal information, and documenting this information.
• Respect and protect the Human Rights of patients.
• Work closely and communicate clearly with other Center staff and referral resources to provide quality patient care.
• Input information in computer and other record keeping systems.
• Alert Center staff to potential crises or urgent situations and/or incidents.
• Assume additional responsibility consistent with program needs and staff role, as defined in consultation with the Program Manager.
• Attends supervision and utilizes scheduled individual meetings in a productive way. Brings issues of concern and/or importance to the supervisor.
• Work as a team with other departments.
• Driving is required in order to attend required trainings, meetings or to fulfill other responsibilities defined in this role.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Certified Medical Assistant or higher certification in the nursing field, or EMT certification, with at least one year of experience in a role conducting vitals and preliminary medical assessments preferred. Bilingual preferred
• Understanding the pharmacology and physiologic effects of alcohol and other commonly abused substances.
• Ability to effectively perform job responsibilities in a high stress environment.
• Ability to utilize efficient, productive work habits.
